‘The Ballad Of Bertie Kidd’ is one of the best new songs added to Double J this week
It’s gonna be a big bloody week, my friends.
US election. State Of Origin. Kylie motherflippin’ Minogue on the Take 5. I’m getting short of breath just thinking about it.
To help you ease into the week, we’ve got a bunch of new tunes from some new voices, and some very familiar ones, below.
Get plenty more of that sweet new music via our Apple Music and/or Spotify playlists. They are good.
That headline ain’t a lie. It’s been almost 15 years since The Whitlams released new music, a staggering amount of time for a band who have remained quite active on the live circuit.
Tim Freedman and his merry men return with this lyrically dense tale about infamous Australian robber Bertie Kidd. This particular story sees Kidd and his crew trying to steal a bunch of Ken Done and Pro Hart paintings. We won’t go any further – listen to the song!
Musically, it gets pretty epic pretty quickly, but Freedman keep the narrative going without letting the impressively huge and menacing sounds get in the way.
No word on a new Whitlams album at this stage, but this is a promising start.
